Understanding CPSE

Support for Preschool-Aged Children

The Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) is administered through your local school district and helps determine eligibility for special education programs and services for children ages 3–5 who may have developmental delays or disabilities.

When a child is eligible for CPSE services, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed to identify their individual goals and the services and supports they need.

At Abilities, our team works collaboratively with families, school districts and CPSE teams to provide services aligned with each child’s IEP.

Our play-based, developmentally appropriate approach can support areas including:

  • Speech, language and communication
  • Fine and gross motor development
  • Sensory processing and regulation
  • Learning and cognitive development
  • Social-emotional development
  • Independence and daily living skills

Our goal is to help each child build foundational skills and participate more confidently at home, at school and in their community.

We’re Here to Help

Supporting Children — and Their Families

Navigating CPSE services can feel like a lot when you’re new to the process. The Abilities team works with families throughout their child’s services to provide clear communication, collaborative support and individualized care.

We work closely with CPSE teams and school districts, provide services aligned with each child’s IEP goals, and help families understand how they can support their child’s continued development at home.
